ISOLA master’s monologue vol. 5
Meaning of sickness (maladie d’amour)
When the French (sorry for taking as an example) say that they are sick, there is a possibility of two interpretations, physically sick or maladie d’amour. The latter evoke something romantic or meta-physic but in reality especially when young it could be very serious (do you understand what I mean? In my case it was quite serious. I mean seriously in love at the teen).
At my current age (do you still recall the unforgettable song of the Beatles? What would you do when you get 64? Thank God, I am still alive, un grand merci) there seem to be not so many occasions to get infected with “maladie d’amour” but instead maladie réelle such as cancer or unpleasant sort of thing... (Sorry for being not so romantic but the ageing could be something inescapably realistic)
One of my best friends unfortunately got cancer recently and told me the following which was in fact impressive & convincing: Statistically speaking, one of the two Japanese get cancer, but given that situation the most important thing is probably not avoid getting cancer but try to live & learn with it because cancer is a part of yourself. Cancer is in fact the very result of the battles in your immune system with them which are your own outcomes.
So let’s live up to the limit, probably to our 90s or 100s together! Let me just remind you of the most relevant song related to the subject of today for my generation and beyond.
- “Desperado” by Eagles.
Cheers,
